Installing Push Piers to stabilize a sinking foundation
Challenge
A homeowner in Scarborough contacted us after noticing a troubling crack in their foundation, which suggested potential foundation settlement. This type of issue often shows up as visible cracks in walls, uneven floors, doors and windows that stick or won’t close, and even gaps between walls and ceilings. These are clear signs that the home’s structural integrity may be at risk.
Our specialist carried out a thorough inspection, looking beyond the visible crack to check for other signs of settlement, such as shifting movement and soil instability around the house. If left untreated, foundation settlement can lead to serious damage over time, including bowed walls, weakened support structures, and even water leaks through the cracks, which can greatly impact the home's value, safety, and durability.
Solution
To fix the problem, we used our excellent proven foundation repair system: the Push Pier system. This system is designed to stabilize foundations affected by shifting soil. Made of galvanized steel, these piers are driven deep into stable soil layers using hydraulic equipment. Once anchored, they transfer the weight of the house from the unstable soil to the solid ground beneath, stabilizing the foundation. In many cases, the piers can even lift the home back to its original position, fixing cracks and leveling floors. The installation is quick, with minimal digging and little disturbance to the yard.
