Solving moisture intrusion in a Peterborough crawl space

Challenge

Recently, a homeowner from Peterborough, ON, reached out to Basement Systems Toronto with a unique challenge. Their duplex had a crawl space measuring 30 feet by 30 feet but with a height of just 2 feet, making it difficult to manage. The homeowner faced issues such as moisture intrusion and the need for a cleaner and more secure space.

Solution

Understanding the importance of creating a safe and durable environment, our Customer Care team quickly organized a home inspection to assess the situation firsthand. Upon evaluation, our System Design Specialist diagnosed the primary concerns and recommended a comprehensive solution.

To address the moisture and contamination issues, we installed CleanSpace technology, known for its resilience and effectiveness in sealing off spaces from moisture, pests, and mildew. Additionally, we used Mold-X2 stain remover, which cleans contaminated surfaces, including wood and masonry, in just 20 seconds. This was crucial for ensuring the crawl space was free from mold and mildew.

Furthermore, we installed the SmartDrain™ Drain System, which features a unique ball-and-cup mechanism. When water enters the cup, the ball floats and opens the drain, sealing again when no water remains. This system includes the WaterWatch® Alarm, which sounds off to alert homeowners of any water issues, providing an added layer of security.

Our production team, consisting of our skilled foreman Colin and installers, embarked on the task with dedication. Despite the challenging low height, they expertly integrated wire mesh and polythene alongside CleanSpace, ensuring the crawl space was not only encapsulated but also transformed into a critically clean and dry area.

This installation process was carried out with utmost care, demonstrating our team's ability to handle even the most demanding specifications. The outcome was remarkable: the once-neglected crawl space of the Peterborough duplex became a sealed, moisture-free zone, significantly enhancing the overall health and safety of the home.
